Thirteen students from five school districts received training in critical thinking skills, creative problem solving and idea development during this week-long summer camp. The Dreamtory included immersive field trips, participatory learning sessions in visual arts, improvisation, design, movement, storytelling and more. In addition, the students participated in responsive brainstorming where they designed and pitched their collaborative solutions to community leaders in the Canton area.
Veteran's Affairs Healing Garden
Submitted by Toni Able
from Greenwood Healthy Neighborhoods,
Greenwood, South Carolina
Toni Able used her $5,000 prize to help establish the Veteran's Affairs Healing Garden. The garden provides a welcome addition to a veteran's facility that houses a veteran's museum, ROTC office, community rooms and a resource center.
Volunteers from the community came together to help Toni transform the courtyard of the veteran's facility into a serene garden. They planned herbs, flowers, and flowering shrubs and installed benches, creating a beautiful green space where town residents can gather and enjoy the outdoors.
